Great-Grandad’s World War 1 Medals Framed

After such a long time, I have finally had my Great-Grandfathers WW1 Medals Professionally Framed. To say that I am pleased with the outcome is an under statement, I am truly blown away by how amazing the frame and Medals look.

This is without doubt one of my proudest ‘Family History’ moments.

It was a long time in the planning stage, to get it right, but I was only going to do this once, so I wanted it done properly. I honestly could not be any happier with the finished frame, it looks truly amazing. The pictures won’t do it full justice, because the frames not mounted on the wall yet, but I’m sure the pictures will give you a feel for what it looks like.

I began researching my family tree around 15 years ago to initially find out more about my Father who died when I was three years old and I haven’t stopped searching yet. I also have a keen interest in Military History in particular WW1.

      3. Oh gosh, no. It was 38 years ago. I doubt I’d even be able to identify them. This was back in South Africa in the 80s and stuff just disappeared. I doubt the people who stole the medals even knew their worth and probably just dumped them. Its painful to remember that, but it’s so long ago now. Part of life in SA I’m afraid..

      1. Always wanted to do that for my grandfather, but we never saw the penny and he was buried with his medals. I only have the cap badge.

  12. Well done. Such a great achievement. Dad and I are in the process of trying to do the same. it’s such a process. We don’t have any very good photos of my great-grandfather. Just trying to get an enlargement and decent scan has taken six months waiting for a company to finally decide they couldn’t help. Then some of the medals have lost their ribbon so we need to get another one. Hopefully we can get something together by the end of the year. Yours look magnificent!

    1. Thanks so much Alex! It took me a long time to decide how I wanted to present mine and I researched for ages looking for the right framing company. But they cleaned and polished the medals and re ribboned them as well. It was expensive but worth every penny
